What’s Real Belonging?

February 4, 2016 by Leslie Nipps Leave a Comment

Leslie Nipps Nature Photography 116Many of us–maybe most of us–long for belonging. This is understandable. Not only because many of us have families that are tricky to belong to, but in the United States, the immigrant, genocide, and slave history has led to a shared systemic experience of belonging somewhere else that is lost to us.

As a result many of us–with more or less success–look for belonging in lots of places other than our families: churches, social groups, social justice movements, and groups of liked-minded friends. This is all beautiful and necessary.

But what if we always already belong? What if those new kinds of belonging are added onto the belonging we already have? How would that change our experience of life, our trust, our sense of ease?

Many of my clients want ease in their businesses, too. I’ve found that the relaxation and energy that comes from discovering we all already belong has huge impact on our ability to thrive in our businesses and find success. (Got to Winter 2016 Business Programs for upcoming offerings that include this kind of healing.)

As most of you know, last November I co-directed the 2015 North American Systemic Constellations Conference. I was able to deliver a few words to the gathering, and I’ve finally received a short video (8 minutes) of one of the main reflections I offered. As I listened to it, I realized that it gets to the heart of just these themes of belonging that are so important to us.

I invite you to watch this video with an eye for whatever situation you have going on in your life, where you are needing more ease and belonging. At the end of the video, I apply the teaching specifically to the professional constellations community, but it is relevant to all of us.

Enjoy!
